Why Small Decisions Matter

Every day, we make hundreds of decisions. While some of these choices may seem trivial, they all contribute to the creation of our life.



Our choices create our life; a life that is more or less fulfilling. The choices that we make either lead us towards a more fulfilling life or away from it. They either lead us towards a life that we love or away from it.


WE ARE TODAY WHERE WE ARE BECAUSE OF OUR CHOICES


Wayne Dyer said that:


“Our lives are a sum total of the choices we have made.”

Basically, we are today where we are because of our choices – the big and small decisions that we’ve made.


OUR CHOICES CREATE OUR HABITS


Of course, an individual small choice is not going to change our life, but it is the accumulation of our daily small decisions that create our lifestyle. It creates our habits, our character, our life.


For example, choosing a chocolate bar over an apple occasionally is not a big deal, but if we make this choice every day, it’s going to affect us. If one of your goals is to be fit, making this small decision every day is not going to get you there.


The choices we make are either getting us closer to our dream life or further away from it. It’s the repetition of these small decisions that create a habit. Choices that serve us, create good habits. And good habits are just as difficult to break as bad habits.



WOULD YOU LIKE THIS BEHAVIOUR TO BECOME A HABIT?

So when we make a choice, the question to ask ourselves is whether we would like this choice of action become a habit. It’s a slippery slope. It’s easy to start a downwards spiral. It usually takes more effort to start an upwards spiral as the benefits of the choices only often show themselves in the long-term. Choosing the immediate gratification is generally the easier option, but often not leading us to our goal.


Small steps can lead to great change. Small choices do matter.
